HOW TO RUN THE CD-ROM ON WINDOWS 7

The Thanhouser Films CD-ROM was released in 1995 on Windows 3.1 and has run successfully on subsequent versions of Microsoft Windows (95, ME, XP and Vista). With the release of Windows 7 and 64-bit support, the CD-ROM will install successfully, but it will not run as it is a 32-bit application and is not supported by 64-bit versions of Windows 7; the CD-ROM will install and run on 32-bit versions of Windows but the video features do not work.

To solve this problem, Microsoft has released with Windows 7 a feature called "Windows XP Mode and Virtual PC." This feature, when installed, utilizes the virtualization features of modern day computers to run legacy applications like the Thanhouser CD-ROM. To run XP Mode you must be running Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise or Ultimate; Windows Home Premium does not support XP Mode.

In order to simplify this process, Thanhouser Company Film Preservation, Inc. has developed a CD-ROM with all the necessary files and step-by-step instructions to install Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode. Once XP Mode is successfully installed, the CD-ROM will work perfectly.

HOW TO RUN THE CD-ROM ON APPLE MAC COMPUTERS
The solution to running the Thanhouser Films CD-ROM on Apple Macs is to install a Virtual PC, install Windows XP, and then install the Thanhouser Films CD-ROM. This has been tested with Parallels Desktop 5 on a MacPro and it works quite well. Visit http://www.parallels.com/ to download an evaluation copy for free. You will need a copy of Windows XP to install with this option.

Alternately, you can utilize the Apple Boot Camp utility and install a copy of Windows XP. Either method will allow you to install and run the Thanhouser Films CD-ROM.
