GREINER, Samuel

Scenario writer (1915-1916)

Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Samuel Greiner furnished scenarios to Thanhouser during the 1915-1916 period.

Biographical Notes: Samuel Greiner was born in 1890 in Austria. He studied at Columbia College in New York City, graduating in 1910, after which he earned his Ph.D. at New York University. For the next several years he wrote articles on mathematics for technical journals. His screen career included writing scenarios for Universal, Thanhouser, and Edison (scenario editor, author of Josselyn's Wife; Cy Whittaker's Ward). Apparently, he furnished only a few scripts to Thanhouser. The New Rochelle Pioneer, June 3, 1916, announced that he was among nearly two dozen important players, directors, cameramen, and others who were dismissed by the studio on Saturday morning, May 27, 1916, as part of an economy move. The 1918 edition of the Motion Picture Studio Directory noted that at the time he worked with Edison at 2826 Decatur Avenue, New York City and lived at 290 Arlington Avenue, Brooklyn, New York.
