BARLEON, Amelia *

Actress (1910)

Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Amelia Barleon appeared in several Thanhouser films in 1910.

Biographical Notes: Amelia Barleon, born in Chicago, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from The Musical College there. Miss Barleon followed a career on the stage, and in 1904 she was in vaudeville with John Jack and Company. Later, between her stage engagements, she appeared in films from time to time, including work with Thanhouser in 1910. (In 1947, when Robert Hamilton Ball, a Shakespeare scholar, interviewed Edwin Thanhouser, the former film producer had no recollection of Miss Barleon, which indicates that she could not have been an important personage at the studio in her time.)

In 1911-1912 she was seen on stage in New York City in Kismet, starring Otis Skinner. At one time Amelia Barleon was with Kalem and appeared uncredited in an early composite photograph of Kalem players. In 1919 she appeared in the World release of The Scar. In later years she was on the stage in many productions, including work for the Coburn Players Shakespearean Repertory and, elsewhere, in such favorites as Electra, The Philadelphia Story, The Better 'Ole, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and Arsenic and Old Lace. She died on June 17, 1969.

Note: In some accounts her surname was given erroneously as Barton.

Thanhouser Filmography:
