SPEAR, Harry *

Stage manager, actor (1912)

Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Harry Spear was primarily known as a stage manager at Thanhouser's New Rochelle studio in 1912.

Biographical Notes: In 1912, Harry Spear was a stage manager at Thanhouser's New Rochelle studio. The May 18, 1912 issue of The Moving Picture News noted that he had just joined the New Rochelle firm, formerly having been a stage manager on the Pacific Coast. He was scheduled to arrive at Thanhouser to take the place of George O. Nichols on the Saturday that Nichols departed. Although he was primarily a stage manager, he did have an acting part in the 1912 release of Jess.

Note: The Thanhouser employee may have been the same person as Harry A. Spear, an actor and film director, who died in Los Angeles on June 13, 1914. He worked on the stage at the Alcazar and Belasco theatres, later going to London with the production of First Born. At one time that Harry Spear was associated with Ethel Barrymore and Henry Miller and was a motion picture director.
