Thanhouser Career Synopsis: For a short time Herbert G. Abbe was an assistant director with Thanhouser, according to a listing in the 1918 edition of the Motion Picture Studio Directory.

Biographical Notes: Herbert G. Abbe was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island on October 25, 1880, and was educated in Providence, Rhode Island and Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Early in his career he appeared on the stage in stock and vaudeville productions.

His screen appearances included work with Thanhouser, six years with Edison, work with the U.S. Motion Picture Corporation, and one year with Universal. He directed slapstick comedy and dramatic features, according to a listing in the 1918 edition of the Motion Picture Studio Directory, at which time he was with the Sunbeam Company.

In 1918 it was noted that he was 5'9" tall, weighed 145 pounds, had a dark complexion, dark hair, and blue eyes. For recreation he enjoyed riding and swimming. His home address was 453 East 186th Street, Bronx, New York, and his studio address was care of Sunbeam, 220 West 42nd Street, New York City.
