HUTCHINSON, Samuel S.

Business associate of Charles J. Hite (c.1912-1914)

Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Although he was not directly associated with the Thanhouser Film Corporation, Samuel S. Hutchinson was a business partner of Charles J. Hite for several years and was thus a figure in the Thanhouser story. Both Hutchinson and Hite, among others, were principals in the Mutual Film Corporation, which for several years distributed Thanhouser pictures.

Biographical Notes: Samuel S. Hutchinson was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He received his B.S. degree from Illinois Wesleyan University. Early in his career he was a banker and merchant. In 1905 he was president of the Theatre Film Service Company, a distributor, and in 1908 he was a partner with Charles J. Hite and was president of the H. & H. Film Service Company, located in Chicago. In 1910 he was president of the American Film Company, and in 1915 he was president of the Signal Film Corporation. In 1916 he was chairman and chief executive officer of Vogue Films, Inc., was treasurer of the Mutual Film Corporation, and maintained his office with the American Film Company, Inc. at 6229 Broadway, Chicago, Illinois.
