BISHOP, Jessie B.

Executive, studio employee (1911-1919)

Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Miss Jessie B. Bishop was a secretary and an officer of the Thanhouser firm from as early as 1911 until the very end of the company's existence.

Biographical Notes: Jessie B. Bishop began with the Thanhouser Company circa 1911 as an office secretary, performing such duties as typing, dictation transcription, and other office tasks. She held the corporate office of secretary while Charles J. Hite controlled the Thanhouser Film Corporation, during which time she still engaged in typing and other office duties. After activities were curtailed in New Rochelle in the autumn of 1917, she continued to handle paperwork and other tasks for what remained of the corporate structure of the company. In the late autumn of 1917 she shared the lonely studio facilities with Edwin Thanhouser, who was waiting out the expiration of his contract. In 1919 she assisted with the sale of certain corporate assets. New Rochelle city directories give her 1911 home address as 7 Howe Avenue and her occupation as that of a clerk. From 1913 through 1917 she was listed as a secretary, and her address was 36 Franklin Avenue. In 1918 she was listed as a manager at the same address as the year preceding.
