VON ELTZ, Theodore *

Actor (1915-1916)

Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Theodore von Eltz was an actor with Thanhouser circa 1915-1916.

Biographical Notes: Theodore von Eltz was born on November 5, 1893 in New Haven, Connecticut, the son of Baron Louis von Eltz, a professor of language at Yale, who traced his recent ancestry to nobles in the Austrian court of Franz Josef. Young Theodore was educated at the Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania and planned to be a medical doctor, but the footlights attracted him, and he went on the stage in New York City in 1913. For much of the next five years he traveled around the United States in stock companies. Theodore von Eltz was with Thanhouser for a short period circa 1915-1916. During the World War he served as a second lieutenant in France. In later years, through the 1950s, he appeared in many film productions of various companies and was also in radio and television. Theodore von Eltz died at the Motion Picture Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, California on October 6, 1964. He was survived by his wife, Elizabeth; a son, Theodore, Jr., of San Pedro, California; and a daughter, Mrs. Alexander Scourby, of New York City.
