MUSSETT, Charles *

Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Charles Mussett appeared in the 1917 Thanhouser release of Hinton's Double.

Biographical Notes: Charles Mussett was born in London, England in 1876, and was educated in Putney, England. He followed a stage career for 18 or 19 years in England and America, including work with Charles Frohman, Wilson Barrett, Cyril Maude, and Mrs. Patrick Campbell. His screen career is believed to have begun in 1905 with Edison, although one account stated that he did not come to America until 1907. He later worked with Vitagraph, Peerless, and Paragon and was seen in Seven Deadly Sins and The Revolt, among other releases. In 1917 he appeared in the Triangle film, American - That's All. For a time Charles Mussett managed several of Percy G. Williams' theatres in New York City. In 1918 his address was care of his agent, Ouida Bergere, Bergere Agency, Aeolian Hall, New York City.

At one time, when the actor was associated with the stage play Oh Look, his home telephone in New York City was Columbus-4518. A photograph caption from that era noted he was 6' tall and weighed 180 pounds. The 1923-4 issue of the Motion Picture Studio Directory noted that he had been in films with Fox, Realart, Edison, Famous Players, Goldwyn, Tourneur, and First National, appearing in Stardust and The Light in the Dark for the last-named firm. The 1921 edition of the same publication printed a photograph of him on page 321 and stated that he had appeared in Number 17 and The Magic Cup. Charles Mussett died in Bernardsville, New Jersey on December 8, 1939. He was survived by his widow, Victoria Mussett, of New York City; a daughter, Frances Mussett, of New York City; and two brothers, Albert, of London, and Arthur, of Cape Town, South Africa.

Note: In some notices, especially early ones, his last name appeared as "Mussette."
