CARROLL, William *

Actor (1912-1915)

Thanhouser Career Synopsis: William Carroll was an actor with Thanhouser circa 1912-1915.

Biographical Notes: William Arthur Carroll was born in New York in 1875. His early career was on the stage. By 1911 he was with American Biograph, for whom he acted in several 1912 and 1913 releases, including Black Sheep, Iola's Promise, The Battle at Elderbush Gulch, and The Stolen Loaf. During the early years he also worked with Selig, Méliès, and Vitagraph.

William Carroll was employed by Thanhouser as an actor by 1912 and remained with the studio through 1915. In the latter year he was seen in Falstaff comedies. An article in The Moving Picture World, October 16, 1915, named him among Thanhouser players of the time, although he was virtually overlooked in other publicity. During the 1916-1918 years he was with the American Film Manufacturing Company in Santa Barbara, California. William Carroll remained in films through the late 1920s, and died of cancer in Glendale, California on December 26, 1927. (In its January 11, 1928 issue, Variety erroneously listed his death date as January 26.)
