CLOY, May *

Actress (1916-1917)

Thanhouser Career Synopsis: May Cloy was an actress with Thanhouser at one time, according to listings in the October 1916 and April 12, 1917 editions of the Motion Picture News Studio Directory.

Biographical Notes: Born Mabel Larsen on May 8, 1892, in Minneapolis, May Cloy was educated in Portland, Oregon. For six years she was on the stage, during which time she appeared with James T. Powers in Havana, Louise Gunning in The Balkan Princess, and in the Ziegfeld Follies. Her management included Ralph Herz and Kolb & Dill.

In her screen career she played ingenue parts for Famous Players, Thanhouser, K. & D. Film (Glory, a states rights release through Unity Sales), and American (A Million for Mary, Lonesome Town, Beloved Rogues, Three Pals, Bluffs, A Peck o' Pickles, etc.). Apparently, she worked with Thanhouser prior to October 1916. Her roles must have been minor, for she was not featured in publicity. Directories published 1916-1918 stated that at the time she was with American in Santa Barbara, California. She was 5'4" tall, weighed 125 pounds, and had blonde hair and blue eyes. For recreation she enjoyed dancing, horseback riding, and swimming.
