Volume III: Biographies

CARROLL, Clay *

Actress (1916-1917)

Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Miss Clay Carroll was an actress at the Thanhouser studio in 1916 and 1917.

Biographical Notes: The New Rochelle Pioneer, December 20, 1916, reported that Miss Clay Carroll, who earlier had worked as an extra in two films elsewhere, had joined Thanhouser as an actress. The account noted she was "a Southern beauty who gives promise of doing some fine work." An article in The Morning Telegraph, January 14, 1917, described her as a "discovery" of Thanhouser director Frederick Sullivan. Despite this optimistic outlook, Miss Carroll was rarely mentioned in Thanhouser publicity, and it is believed that she was with the company for just a short time.
