Volume III: Biographies

CRANE, Irene *

Actress (1909-1911)

Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Irene Crane appeared in Thanhouser films in 1910 and 1911.

Biographical Notes: Irene Crane, wife of Thanhouser actor and director Frank H. Crane, came to New Rochelle in 1909 and was one of Thanhouser's top dozen players in 1910 and early 1911. In keeping with Thanhouser and general trade policy at the time, her name, like those of other players, was rarely mentioned in publicity. At the time her home address was 8 Centre Avenue, New Rochelle.

The Moving Picture World, June 27, 1914, mentioned that she had just undergone a major operation at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in New York City, and noted: "Mrs. Crane has been seen on the screen in numerous occasions, though she is not by profession an actress. Frank reports that she is doing well under the circumstances." Frank H. Crane was with Universal (IMP) at the time. When Frank H. Crane died in Hollywood in 1948, Irene Crane was living in New York City.
