SCHANG, Wally *

Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Wally Schang, a player with the Philadelphia Athletics baseball team, appeared in the Thanhouser-Princess film, The Final Game, which depicted highlights from the last game of the 1913 World Series, played in New York City on October 11, 1913.

Biographical Notes: Walter Henry ("Wally") Schang was born on August 22, 1889 in South Wales, New York. He played major league professional baseball for 19 years and was with the Philadelphia Athletics from 1913 to 1917 and again in 1930. He participated in six World Series contests, 1913, 1914, 1918, 1921, 1922, and 1923. Standing 5'10" tall, he weighed 180 pounds. His older brother, Bobby, was also a major league player. In the final game of the 1913 World Series, filmed by Thanhouser, Wally Schang played center field, was at bat four times, and had one hit. He died on March 6, 1985 in St. Louis, Missouri.
