HAYNES, Marie *

Actress (1916)

Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Marie Haynes was an actress with Thanhouser in 1916.

Biographical Notes: Marie Haynes was born in South Sutton, New Hampshire on May 10, 1856. Her father was a Civil War veteran, who served under Hancock in the Seventh Massachusetts Volunteers. Miss Haynes made her stage debut in 1881 in a road production of Uncle Tom's Cabin. In 1885 she was with Oliver Doud Byron in Across the Continent, and about the same time was on stage in New York City in Jane Eyre, with Charlotte Thompson. In 1909 she was engaged by Harrison Grey Fiske for a role in The Gay Life, later playing in Seven Days, In for the Night, From Saturday to Monday, Dream Maker, Rolling Home, The Judge's Husband, and Mr. Pitt.

She appeared in the October 1916 Thanhouser release of The Pillory. She continued her roles on stage, and in 1928 was seen in Crashing Through. Marie Haynes was the widow of Ralph Howard, an actor who died in 1900, and was the sister of stage and film actress Hattie French. She died at the Brunswick Home, in Amityville, New York, on April 3, 1934, following a protracted illness. Her bills at the Brunswick had been paid by the Actors Fund of America, which also assumed the expense for services conducted by the Walter B. Cooke Funeral Parlor, 117 West 72nd Street, New York City.
