GEREGHTY, Frank L. *

Actor, director (1913-1917)

Thanhouser Career Synopsis: Frank L. Gereghty was an assistant director and director with Thanhouser, circa 1913-1917.

Biographical Notes: Born in New York City on August 2, 1888, Francis L. Gereghty, known as Frank Gereghty, was educated in public schools. Early in his career he was engaged in railroad work as an executive. His screen career began as an assistant director with Biograph, after which he went to Crescent (Volunteer Organist), Edison (The Black Arrow), and Thanhouser. He was at the Thanhouser studio from 1913 onward, and from at least autumn 1916 through 1917 he was an assistant director. He was a director at Thanhouser's Jacksonville, Florida studio in early 1916.

New Rochelle city directories indicate that he lived at 32 Hubert Place in 1915 and 1916. In 1917 his address was given as 30 Hubert Place. The New Rochelle Pioneer, April 24, 1915, stated that Gereghty had been with the United States army at nearby Fort Slocum, had recently received a discharge, and would be working in pictures again soon. Studio directories in 1916-1918 noted that he was 5'11" tall, weighed 170 pounds, and had light brown hair and blue eyes. His address was given as 32 Hubert Place, New Rochelle. His pastimes included horseback riding, swimming, and music. Frank L. Gereghty remained in the motion picture trade as an actor, assistant director, and assistant production manager. He was killed in a flood in North Hollywood, California, on January 1, 1934, when his automobile was buried in the debris of a storm.

Note: His surname appeared as "Geraghty" in some notices.
